The Mask

Most of us wear masks these days,
True faces are shown by only some.
Life was never meant to be a masquerade party,
I wonder why we are trying to make it one.

I hope one day you muster the courage to bid it adieu.
I hope out of all those faces, you remember the one which is true.
Because the mask masks you from yourself too.
I wonder what it might have made of you.

The day you decided to hide behind it,
The mask also decided to not let them catch your glimpse.
And it has been there. Dismantling your true self,
Inch by inch, ever since.
